Training for a Skydiving License
In the USA, Skydiving Licenses are issued by the United States Parachute Association (USPA). For those who want to experience the thrill of skydiving on a regular basis, Skydive San Marcos offers structured training based on the USPA Accelerated Freefall (AFF) Program.
The Skydive San Marcos AFF program consists of 14 progressive AFF skydives (AFF Level 1 to 14). On each jump the student is accompanied by a minimum of one USPA Instructor or Coach (AFF Level 1-3 skydives require 2 Instructors per student). Prior to each skydive, the student is thoroughly briefed with respect to exit, freefall manoeuvers, canopy control and landing. Each jump is also followed by a thorough debrief.
Program entry begins with Ground School Training (approx. 6 hours duration ) followed by the AFF - L1 (Level 1) skydive. The Ground School Training prepares the student for the AFF - L1 skydive, during which the student is accompanied by two (2) USPA AFF Instructors.
During the AFF - L4 to L7 skydives, the student is accompanied by one (1) USPA AFF Instructor and works progressively to obtain the necessary freefall and canopy piloting skills required to graduate to the Coaching Program (AFF - L8 to L14).
Skydive San Marcos run a Ground School Training program every 2 weeks - please see the Events and News page for details of our next course.
While Skydive San Marcos welcomes prospective AFF students who have never skydived before, we highly recommend an Orientation Tandem Skydive be performed prior to entry to the AFF program.
